First year Defensive Line Coach Jimmy Brookins Jr is a 1984 graduate of Jefferson County High School where he was a three time all state and All Big Bend performer. He was voted Most Outstanding Defensive Back three times and was a member of the 1982 Flordia State AA Championship Team. Brookins played basketball and helped his team reach the state finals in 1983-84. Brookins was a 3 time state finalist in Track & Field. Jimmy recieved a full scholarship at Valdosta State College where he was twice voted All Gulf Conference (1987 & 1988) and twice voted VSU Hugh Bailey player of the year (1987 & 1988). Brookins was an All America Selection in 1988. Brookins holds the VSU record for solo tackles in a game (17) and solo tackles in a season (73). 

Brookins served as the Strength and Conditioning coach as well as coaching Linebackers and sharing the Defensive Coodinator duties at Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC from 2004-09. in 2009 Brookins served as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach at Southern Tech Prepatory (Charlotte, NC). From 2010-11 Brookins was the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at West Mecklenburg High School. In 2012 Coach Brookins served as Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator of the Eastern Kentucky Drillers of the American Indoor Football League in Pikeville, Kentucky. In 2013 Brookins joined the staff of the University of Pikeville where he coached linebackers and was the director of player development.
